38.3% responded that the method for finding an exterior wall painting contractor is "recommendation from acquaintances or family."

First, we asked people who responded that they "currently live in a detached house or plan to purchase one in the future" how they would search for an exterior wall painting contractor.

The most common method was "recommendation from acquaintances or family" at 38.3%.

This was followed by "internet search" at 37.0%, "local reputation" at 27.3%, and "contractor comparison/lump-sum estimate sites" at 25.7%.

"Recommendation from acquaintances or family" was the most frequent, suggesting a tendency to value the reviews and reputations of those who have actually used the services. On the other hand, many people also use "internet search" and "contractor comparison/lump-sum estimate sites," indicating that many people refer to multiple sources of information for comparison and consideration. It is clear that many people want to choose a contractor after confirming reliability and track record to avoid mistakes.

24.7% responded that the most important point when choosing an exterior wall painting contractor is "local construction experience."

Next, we asked people who responded that they "currently live in a detached house or plan to purchase one in the future" what is the most important point when choosing an exterior wall painting contractor.

The most common answer was "local construction experience" at 24.7%.

This was followed by "craftsman's technical skill" at 18.3%, "low price" at 17.7%, and "comprehensive warranty" at 15.3%.

We also asked for the reasons why they emphasized those points, and here are some excerpts:

Respondents who chose "local construction experience"

- I am attracted to companies rooted in the community. (20s, Male)

- There are fraudulent companies, so I want to hire a company with a solid track record. (30s, Female)

- I believe that contractors who are closely involved with the local community can be trusted. (40s, Female)

Respondents who chose "craftsman's technical skill"

- I prefer a beautiful finish. (30s, Female)

- I think skill is the most important thing. I wouldn't want shoddy work even if it was cheap. It's also nice if it lasts for many years. (40s, Female)

- I believe it depends on the craftsman's skill rather than the company. (40s, Female)

Respondents who chose "low price"

- I want to reduce expenses as much as possible. (30s, Male)

- I want to leave it to someone who is cheap and thorough. (40s, Male)

- There is a considerable price difference between contractors for exterior wall painting. (50s, Male)

Regarding the most common answer, "local construction experience," comments such as "I can trust contractors who are closely involved with the local community" and "There are fraudulent companies, so I want to hire a company with a solid track record" were received, indicating that trust in the contractor was the reason for emphasizing construction experience.

Furthermore, among those who chose "craftsman's technical skill," comments emphasizing the quality of the finish were prominent. On the other hand, among those who chose "low price," there were opinions such as "I want to leave it to someone who is cheap and thorough," suggesting that they value not only price but also technical skill and responsiveness. Exterior wall painting is a highly specialized job, and it is difficult to judge the quality of the work. Therefore, it seems that many people want to choose a contractor they can rely on with peace of mind by referring to objective information such as construction experience and technical skill.

68.3% responded that "persistent and aggressive sales tactics" are what they "absolutely want to avoid" when choosing an exterior wall painting contractor.

Next, we asked people who responded that they "currently live in a detached house or plan to purchase one in the future" what points they "absolutely want to avoid" when choosing an exterior wall painting contractor.

The most common answer was "persistent and aggressive sales tactics" at 68.3%.

This was followed by "opaque and unclear estimates" at 60.3%, "no warranty or ambiguous warranty terms" at 50.0%, and "extremely high prices compared to the market average" at 49.7%.

The top items were "sales," "estimates," "warranty," and "price," which are related to money and trust. It is clear that many people feel uneasy about aggressive sales tactics or proceeding with a contract without understanding the details of the estimate. Because exterior wall painting is a specialized field and difficult to judge, receiving a satisfactory explanation regarding costs, construction details, and warranties is an important point for entrusting the work with peace of mind.

41.0% responded that they want to get estimates from "3 companies."

Finally, we asked people who responded that they "currently live in a detached house or plan to purchase one in the future" how many companies they would like to get estimates from if they were to compare and consider exterior wall painting contractors.

The most common answer was "3 companies" at 41.0%.

This was followed by "2 companies" at 24.3%, "4 or more companies" at 20.0%, and "1 company" at 14.7%. A majority of people seem to be considering "multiple estimates" as a matter of course.

We also asked for the reasons why they chose that number of companies, and here are some excerpts:

Respondents who chose "3 companies"

- I feel like I can get a general idea by getting estimates from about 3 companies. (30s, Female)

- I want to compare and consider prices, quality, reliability, etc., thoroughly and choose the best one. (30s, Male)

- If I research too much, I get confused, and if I only get one estimate, I feel like I'll regret it later. About 3 companies seems just right. (40s, Female)

Respondents who chose "2 companies"

- I want to narrow down the options before the estimate stage. (20s, Female)

- I think I can understand the market price. (30s, Female)

- I want to choose the better one from the two. (40s, Male)

Respondents who chose "4 or more companies"

- I want to assess it properly. (20s, Female)

- It's an important big purchase, so I want to decide carefully. (20s, Male)

- I want to be particular about it. (30s, Male)

Respondents who chose "1 company"

- I'm fine with the one I was introduced to. (30s, Female)

- I live in a depopulated area, so there are few options. (40s, Male)

From those who answered "3 companies," the most common reasons given were "I can understand the market price," "It's easy to compare prices, quality, and reliability," and "Too many options can be confusing." It appears that many people consider "3 companies" to be just right, balancing ease of comparison with ease of consideration. On the other hand, among those who answered "2 companies," there were comments such as "I think I can understand the market price" and "I want to narrow down the options before the estimate stage," suggesting a desire for efficient comparison. Furthermore, among those who answered "4 or more companies," opinions such as "I want to assess it properly" and "I want to decide carefully" were received, indicating a willingness to take time to make a satisfactory choice. Respondents who chose "1 company" cited reasons such as "I was introduced to the contractor" and "There are few options in my area," suggesting that the method of choosing a contractor can vary depending on regional factors and the presence of reliable recommendations. Because exterior wall painting is an expensive job, it is important to understand the price range and the differences between contractors. By utilizing multiple estimates, it will be easier to compare prices and construction details and choose a contractor with confidence.
