The Nippon Foundation SpoGOMI Federation has compiled its cumulative results for SpoGOMI in time for Environment Month in June. SpoGOMI, which turns trash collection into a sport, is being held by various entities both in Japan and abroad, steadily expanding its reach. From 2008 to 2025, a total of 2,080 SpoGOMI tournaments were held with 209,489 participants. The total weight of collected trash is 264,517kg (approx. 265 tons). This is equivalent to about 130 garbage trucks, based on a standard capacity of 2 tons. SpoGOMI requires no special skills or physical strength, making it accessible to everyone from children to the elderly. Companies, local governments, and schools are hosting tournaments for their own purposes. As June is Environment Month, tournaments are scheduled across the country.
