The Nippon Foundation SPOGOMI Federation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Masanori Tamazawa, hereinafter "Nippon Foundation SPOGOMI Federation"), as a co-organizer, participated in the cleanup activity "Amway x SpoGOMI 2026" hosted by the Nippon Amway Foundation (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Jiafeng Tong, hereinafter "Nippon Amway Foundation"). With the cooperation of Amway LLC (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Irina Menshikova, hereinafter "Amway Japan"), the event was held as part of the June Environmental Month initiatives on June 27 and 28, 2026, in the three cities of Nagoya, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka.
Beautifying Local Communities in June, "Environmental Month"
SpoGOMI, a "sports garbage collection" competition, is a sport originating in Japan where teams collect garbage within a time limit and compete for points based on the amount and type collected. Due to its accessible nature for participants of all ages, from children to the elderly, it has been enjoyed by approximately 200,000 people to date. SpoGOMI is a sport that is "kindest to the planet," where enjoying the game leads to environmental action.
This event was held as part of the June Environmental Month initiatives, with the objective set by the Nippon Amway Foundation: "Against the backdrop of environmental issues such as marine plastic and littering in urban areas, to re-recognize the importance of environmental beautification and conservation in living areas while engaging a wide range of generations, and to lead to proactive, continuous action."
104kg of Trash Collected Across 3 Cities! 88 Participants in Total
The event was held at three locations: Nagoya, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka, with surrounding areas serving as the fields, spread over two days. A total of 88 participants collected 104kg of trash across all areas, which was sorted and weighed on the spot.
Participants shared feedback such as, "When we competed to clean up the town, the trash looked like treasure, and I became engrossed in picking it up. It was a valuable opportunity to think about the environment while having fun," and "Even on roads I walk every day, I was surprised to see more trash than I imagined when I consciously looked. I felt refreshed after the activity." It was a meaningful event that allowed participants to contribute to local environmental beautification while enjoying themselves.

Comments from Organizers and Co-organizers
Kenichi Mamizuka, Executive Director, The Nippon Foundation SPOGOMI Federation Many families participated, and the children involved actively took on roles as team members, enjoying collecting trash while following the rules. During the interview with the winning team, a 6-year-old boy's comment, "Picking up trash was a sport," was very impressive.
Jiafeng Tong, Representative Director, Nippon Amway Foundation I would be very happy if this event serves as an opportunity for people to turn their attention to their immediate living environment and realize that individual actions can lead to changes in their communities and society. Our foundation will continue to promote various activities that connect with communities and people towards the realization of a sustainable society.
