Meteorologist and Disaster Prevention Specialist: Yuji Tsuchiya

Class Registration – Details Here

NHK Culture Matsumoto iCITY21 will host a special lecture featuring Yuji Tsuchiya, a meteorologist and weathercaster currently appearing on TV Yamanashi’s information program 'Sugoroku'. The lecture, themed 'Matsumoto's Weather and Disaster Preparedness', will provide accessible insights into local climate and safety.

Nagano Prefecture stretches north to south and features significant elevation differences and mountainous terrain, resulting in vastly different weather and climatic conditions across regions. Matsumoto and its surrounding areas, in particular, experience a basin-specific climate, with distinctive seasonal weather patterns.

This lecture will clearly explain Nagano’s climatic characteristics and Matsumoto’s unique meteorological features, using relatable local examples.

Additionally, the session will cover practical ways to interpret weather forecasts and disaster alerts in preparation for typhoons, torrential rains, heavy snowfall, and other weather-related disasters. Attendees will learn how to effectively use everyday tools such as weather apps and meteorological websites, along with understanding common warnings and advisories frequently mentioned in news reports.

Notably, lecturer Yuji Tsuchiya has an unconventional background, transitioning from a sales career to becoming a meteorologist, and has experience living abroad in the United States.

Committed to the motto 'Fun, Detailed, and Easy to Understand,' he delivers information in an engaging and accessible manner.

This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from a meteorologist active on television.

The lecture will be held exclusively in person at the Matsumoto iCITY21 classroom, with no online streaming available.

Recommended for residents of the Matsumoto area, as well as anyone interested in applying weather forecasts more effectively in daily life or improving their disaster preparedness.
