Seminar Overview 'Jugyo Terrace,' an online platform for teachers operated by NIJIN Co., Ltd. (Koto-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tatsuro Hoshino), will host an online seminar titled 'Implementing Moral Education Classes that Foster Deep Thought and Discussion' on Friday, June 5, 2026. The guest lecturer will be Nobuyuki Kato, a part-time lecturer at the Elementary School attached to the University of Tsukuba.
Background and Objectives Ten years have passed since moral education became a formal subject in Japan. Yet, there remains a critical need to understand how effectively it fosters living skills in children. Educators nationwide report challenges such as classes remaining superficial as they only follow textbook contents and not knowing how to draw out students' genuine thoughts and diverse perspectives.
In this seminar, Kato, known for his extensive classroom practice and supervision of various moral education textbooks, will share specific and highly reproducible teaching techniques for children to deepen their own thinking and enjoy dialogue.
Key Features ### 1. Approach for a Changing Era In a diverse society, children need the ability to formulate their own questions and build logical thoughts. Kato proposes 'questioning techniques' that help children view issues from multiple perspectives rather than stopping at superficial impressions.
### 2. Making Moral Education 'Discussion-Worthy' Some students dislike moral education because they feel 'forced' to think about topics determined by teachers. Kato will explain how teachers can create environments that motivate students to participate enthusiastically and speak up spontaneously.
### 3. Theory Meets Practice As the supervisor/writer for Mitsumura Tosho's 'Yutakana Kokoro' textbook and President of the Japan Association for Moral Basic Education, Kato leads the field in Japan. He will share methods based on over 300 hours of instruction per year.
