On June 2, 2026, Nippon Chikudenchi Co., Ltd. (President: Shuichi Urushihara) signed an agreement with Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, to supply emergency power from grid-scale battery storage stations during disasters. This agreement aims to strengthen local disaster preparedness and maintain essential services. Grid-scale batteries connect to the power grid to charge during surplus and discharge when needed, playing a crucial role in stabilizing renewable energy. Under this agreement, Nippon Chikudenchi will utilize a planned storage facility in Takayama with a rated capacity of approximately 8 MWh (8,146 kWh). During power outages, qualified chief electrical engineers will operate the facility locally to provide power through external outlets, enabling residents to charge smartphones, laptops, and portable batteries. Since a two-person household requires about 17 kWh for 72 hours, the facility can support approximately 470 households. Nippon Chikudenchi focuses on storage station construction, maintenance, and market creation, aiming to launch 80 operational facilities by 2026.
