Nippon Kanzai Environmental Service-led Consortium to Manage Yakushima Town's Waste Treatment Facility, Protecting World Natural Heritage Environment

Nippon Kanzai Holdings Inc. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; Representative Director: Masahiro Wakamatsu), as a "Special Consignment Business Joint Enterprise (Consortium Member: Yakuden Shoji Co., Ltd.)", has been awarded the contract for the operation and management of the Yakushima Town Clean Support Center (Kagoshima Prefecture), and its completion ceremony was held on May 17, 2026.

Thirty-three people attended the completion ceremony to celebrate the facility's completion and express gratitude to the construction personnel involved in its development.

About Yakushima Town's Environmental Policy for a World Natural Heritage Site

Yakushima Town is a nature-rich island registered as Japan's first World Natural Heritage site in 1993.

In 2009, the "Yakushima Town Ecotourism Promotion Council" was established with the basic philosophy of creating an island where "people and nature" coexist, promoting the balance between environmental conservation and various fields such as tourism, industry, and daily life. Furthermore, as "waste treatment befitting a World Natural Heritage island," the town has been working on composting food waste and implementing charges for plastic bags for approximately 20 years.

Regarding waste treatment, Yakushima Town formulated the "Yakushima Town Waste Treatment Facility Development Basic Plan" in 2023, establishing policies for environmental consideration and stable facility operation.

Nippon Kanzai Environmental Service's Initiatives (Operation and Management Contract for Yakushima Town Clean Support Center)

The Yakushima Town Clean Support Center was completed in April 2026 as a new waste treatment facility due to the increased costs associated with the aging of the old waste treatment facility that began operation in 2006. Nippon Kanzai Environmental Service Co., Ltd. has been contracted for the operation and management of the old waste treatment facility since 2006, striving for its stable operation for 20 years.

In this project as well, to ensure stable operation, a work plan has been formulated that defines daily inspections and safety management standards. Furthermore, a system has been established to centrally manage each treatment facility from the central control room, realizing operations that can respond promptly even in emergencies.

Moving forward, the company will contribute to the environmental conservation of Yakushima Town, aiming for a beautiful island to be passed down to future generations where "people and nature" coexist, by leveraging its unique know-how and operational experience at approximately 128 diverse infrastructure facilities nationwide to achieve safe, secure, and stable facility operations.
