An Original Coming-of-Age Ceremony on a Trolley Train

Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture - The citizen group 'Ichitane' will operate the sixth annual 'Ichihara Hatachi Torokko' (nickname: HataToro) on Saturday, May 9, 2026. HataToro is a special journey that charters an entire 4-car formation of the 'Boso Satoyama Torokko,' a tourist train on the Kominato Railway, a local line that runs north-south through Ichihara City.

The 'HataToro' experience-based event started in 2021 as a place for new adults, whose coming-of-age ceremonies were canceled due to the spread of COVID-19, to create memories with their classmates. It has since provided a special time for young people reaching this life milestone through Ichihara's satoyama (village-vicinity mountain), regional culture, and interaction with people.

2026's Theme: 'A Toddling and Stretching Journey'

In its sixth year, 2026, the theme will be 'A Toddling and Stretching Journey', held as a 'Collaborative Travel Show Project' where participants themselves will produce a travel program while walking through Ichihara. Participants will ride the trolley train as guests on the show, experiencing the rich nature and local cuisine along the line, while also enjoying interactions with local residents and meeting new friends. The filmed footage will be provided later, allowing them to preserve the memory in a tangible form suitable for this life milestone.
