Movie 'Chilld' Unveils Alternate Visual, Director's Cut Teaser, and First Theater Admission Gift!

Chilld is an 88-minute 'convenience horror' film set in a small convenience store in Tokyo called 'Eni Mart Kuratomi-cho 7-chome Branch.' It portrays how a minor distortion in a small society triggers the end of the world. Starring Shota Sometani, with Erika Karata, Masahiko Nishimura, Kuruma (Reiwa Roman), and others, the film will be released sequentially across Japan starting Friday, July 17, 2026, at theaters including Theatre Shinjuku and Human Trust Cinema Shibuya.

Alternate Visual Unveiled: Sakai’s Face Endlessly Flowing

The newly unveiled visual features countless faces of Sakai (played by Shota Sometani) flowing endlessly on a conveyor belt.

This echoes the scene of a convenience store where products are endlessly restocked, symbolizing the distortion of mechanically repetitive daily life.

The visual perfectly encapsulates the eerie atmosphere of Chilld, where the boundary between normalcy and abnormality gradually dissolves.

Director's Cut Teaser Unveiled: Acclaimed at International Film Festivals

The director's cut teaser is a special video compilation highlighting the film’s achievements at numerous international film festivals, including its official selection in the Forum section and winning the FIPRESCI Prize at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival.

Following its success in Berlin, Chilld continues to be selected for film festivals around the world, including Taiwan and South Korea. It has also been officially selected for the Cheval Noir Competition at Fantasia International Film Festival, North America’s largest fantastic film festival, drawing global attention.

This teaser allows audiences to revisit the film’s unique worldview, recognized by film festivals worldwide. As the release date approaches, it further heightens anticipation for this internationally acclaimed 'convenience horror.'

First Exclusive Theater Admission Gift Unveiled

To commemorate the film’s release, we are pleased to announce the first admission gift: an original Eni Mart plastic bag, as seen in the movie, will be distributed at theaters.

This special edition faithfully recreates the iconic Eni Mart plastic bag featured prominently in the film. It bears the familiar Eni Mart logo and includes a QR code that triggers a special interactive experience when scanned.

Yusuke Iwasaki

Born in 1993. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters, Keio University. Joined Tohoku Shinsha in 2017 and made his directorial debut in 2019. His directed commercial won the Grand Prix in the Film category at the 63rd ACC CREATIVITY AWARDS, Japan’s largest CM festival, establishing him as a prominent creator and director. Known for his static, uncanny style centered on dialogue-driven scenes, he released his first self-written and directed horror film, VOID, in 2024. The film was selected for numerous festivals including the Rotterdam International Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Venice Show – Taitalia Film Festival, Lisbon International Independent Film Festival, and Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival.
