Summer vacation brings many opportunities for children to 'spend money'—but few to 'create value'.
Summer vacation is a season when children have more chances to spend money on travel, leisure, and festivals. However, opportunities for them to set their own prices, communicate the appeal of their products to customers, and receive money in return are extremely limited.
The NPO Kids Flea Market organizes events nationwide where children can personally experience 'selling' and 'buying', helping them understand not only the flow of money but also the value of goods and the importance of communication.
The Unique Experience of Children Acting Alone
The biggest feature of Kids Flea Market is that parents are not allowed in the sales area.
Deciding the price of items.
Communicating the charm of products to customers.
Considering whether to offer discounts.
Calculating sales revenue.
Children themselves carry out this entire series of experiences.
Through both successes and failures, the experience of thinking and acting independently builds confidence and autonomy.
Message from the Representative
Summer vacation is a time when children have more experiences spending money. However, few have the chance to think for themselves, convey value, and receive money in return. At Kids Flea Market, we hope children will learn not only about money but also about communication and the importance of valuing things through the experience of selling and buying.
About 2,500 children participated last summer
During the summer of 2025:
7 events held nationwide (1 event spanned 2 days)
362 booths operated
585 children participated as sellers
1,979 children participated as shoppers
Expanding to 12 locations nationwide in 2026, with first-time event in Shiga Prefecture
In summer 2026, Kids Flea Market will be held at 12 locations across Japan. A new venue, 'Boat Race Biwako' (Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture), will host its first event on August 16. This expansion will bring the educational experience of learning about money and reuse through 'selling and buying' to children in regions that previously had fewer opportunities to participate.
