On May 24, 2026, Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) conducted an intercultural exchange program, with both domestic and international students visiting Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture. Known as one of Japan's leading pottery production centers, Tajimi City provided students with an opportunity to engage with local history and culture, deepening their understanding of Japanese traditional crafts.

Tajimi City boasts a long history as a production area for Mino-yaki, and continues to be an active hub for many kilns and ceramic artists. On the day, blessed with clear skies, students strolled through the town, experiencing the charm of a region where pottery culture thrives.

Trying Painting at Koubei-gama

In the afternoon, students visited Koubei-gama, which has a history of over 200 years, and participated in a pottery painting experience. Students designed their own unique works on pottery, which are scheduled to be fired at the kiln and delivered to them at a later date.

They also toured the exhibition facility annexed to the kiln, learning about the history and evolution of Mino-yaki techniques. By encountering traditional techniques passed down through generations and numerous works of art, students gained a deeper understanding of Japanese manufacturing culture. This cultural experience program provided them with a valuable opportunity to learn about Japanese culture experientially through the history and traditional crafts of Tajimi City. It was a fulfilling day that deepened their understanding of regional culture while fostering interaction among the students.

Establishment of English-based Degree Program, Global BBA

NUCB has established the 'Global Management Program,' a three-faculty collaborative course (Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Management, and Faculty of Commerce), a first for a private university in Japan. It also offers the 'Global BBA,' a bachelor's program taught entirely in English. The environment, where students learn alongside international students from all over the world, is comparable to studying abroad. All Global BBA classes are taught using the 'case method,' which allows students to simulate real-world business decision-making. The program aims to nurture international leaders capable of proposing their own ideas to society through international and inquiry-based learning.
