Nagoya University of Commerce held its first "Myanmar Cultural Fair" on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The event was organized with the aim of introducing the diverse and rich culture of Myanmar to the campus community, driven by the presence of over 30 Myanmar-origin students currently enrolled. Planning and operations were primarily led by Myanmar students and staff members.
The event featured a wide range of programs, including tastings of traditional Myanmar desserts and tea, traditional clothing experiences, performances of traditional arts, introductions to traditional games, and hands-on practice writing in the Myanmar script. Participants particularly enjoyed writing their names in the intricate Myanmar script and trying on the vibrant traditional attire, creating a warm and lively atmosphere throughout the venue.
Fostering Cross-Cultural Affinity and Multicultural Coexistence Through Experience
Over 100 students attended the event. During traditional performances, visitors joined together in chanting and cheering, showcasing cross-national interaction and engagement.
Participants shared positive feedback: "It was a wonderful event that allowed us to casually experience the culture of international students we often see on campus. This experience sparked my interest in other countries, and I would definitely participate in similar cultural events in the future!"
This event went beyond classroom learning by enabling participants to experience culture through all five senses, naturally cultivating interest and familiarity with different cultures. Such active, experiential learning broadens students' perspectives and deepens intercultural understanding within the campus. The university will continue to support student-led initiatives that promote international understanding, while emphasizing the importance of multicultural coexistence.
