Overview A group of experts from Okayama Prefecture has compiled data on patient reports and the medical care system, as published on the official Okayama Prefecture website. This update is scheduled to be released weekly.

Following the model of Tokyo's "Latest Monitoring Item Analysis," we have presented the local situation in a concise summary. Although the WHO has declared an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to provide this information to help residents monitor local conditions and practice effective infection prevention.

Infection and Medical System Analysis (As of May 18, 2026) The number of COVID-19 reports per sentinel site has decreased to 0.18, reflecting a stable situation nationwide. Adaptive infection control measures and early diagnosis/treatment for high-risk patients remain essential.

The seasonal influenza advisory has been lifted (0.08 reports per sentinel site). However, A-group hemolytic streptococcal pharyngitis is currently spreading. Furthermore, the National Institute of Health Crisis Management (JIHS) has issued an advisory regarding hantavirus cases on cruise ships sailing internationally.
