The Okinawa Arena Co., Ltd. has successfully attracted a training camp in Okinawa City by the Toyota Antelopes, a team belonging to the WJBL (Women's Japan Basketball League), Japan's top women's professional basketball league. The camp began on June 30, 2026 (Tue) at the Okinawa Suntory Arena.
This training camp is being held as a preparatory session for the 2026-27 season and will continue until July 5, 2026 (Sun), utilizing the sub-arena and training rooms of the Okinawa Suntory Arena.
On the first day, June 30 (Tue), the team was given a tour of the Okinawa Suntory Arena, including an introduction to its facilities and amenities. On July 1 (Wed), the team paid a courtesy visit to Daisuke Hanashiro, Mayor of Okinawa City, and other city officials. During the visit, they reported on the training camp and exchanged opinions on sports promotion and community collaboration.
This training camp was realized through the attraction efforts undertaken by Okinawa Arena Co., Ltd. as part of its independent business initiatives. By welcoming the Toyota Antelopes, a team from the top women's basketball league WJBL, to Okinawa City, the initiative aims to promote sports tourism, advance women's sports, and foster community interaction through attracting top sports teams for training camps. Furthermore, by combining accommodation and activities within the city, the "Okinawa City Training Camp" is expected to generate economic ripple effects and create vibrancy in the local community.
This training camp is also positioned as an initiative to build momentum for the Daikyoseimei W.League official matches scheduled to be held at the Okinawa Suntory Arena this season.
During the training camp, as part of community outreach, basketball clinics are planned for elementary and junior high school students in Okinawa City.
