Oyo Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Hirofumi Amano; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") is pleased to announce that its "Weakness Extraction Technology for River Embankments Using Towed Electrical Resistivity Survey" has been registered with the New Technology Information System (NETIS) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

NETIS Registration Number

QS-260003-A

Technology Name

Weakness Extraction Technology for River Embankments Using Towed Electrical Resistivity Survey

Registration Date

June 18, 2026

Abstract

This technology relates to embankment investigation. It measures the electrical resistivity values from the ground surface to a depth of approximately 10 meters by towing two types of electrodes. It also allows for continuous and efficient measurement of ground resistivity values, providing a general understanding of ground structures prone to foundation leakage.

Background

In recent years, the risk of river disasters has increased due to increased rainfall associated with climate change. River embankments, in particular, are long and their foundation ground structures vary from place to place, making it important to efficiently identify weak areas.

While borehole surveys have the advantage of directly confirming soil conditions, they are limited to point investigations and have limitations in understanding wide-area ground structures. Furthermore, conventional electrical resistivity surveys (2D resistivity methods), although effective for understanding ground structures in a planar manner, have faced challenges in terms of cost-effectiveness and construction processes due to the need for electrode installation.

Features of the Technology

This technology uses a towed electrical resistivity survey, combining cable-type and plate-type electrodes, to continuously measure ground resistivity values and efficiently understand ground structures.

Unlike conventional 2D resistivity surveys, it does not require electrodes to be installed in the ground, enabling efficient surveys even for long embankments.

Position information is acquired simultaneously using RTK-GNSS (Real-Time Kinematic high-precision satellite positioning) and visualized as an electrical resistivity distribution map.

By using the Company's developed electrodes in combination, it is possible to understand the resistivity structure from the ground surface to a depth of approximately 10 meters.

Improved accuracy in interpreting soil structures by combining with simple boring.

This enables the extraction of weak areas along the longitudinal direction of the embankment, which can be used for selecting areas for focused inspection and efficient maintenance.

Future Development

Going forward, the Company will utilize this technology for the maintenance and safety evaluation of river embankments, working to identify areas with high leakage risk at an early stage. Furthermore, we aim to improve the accuracy of risk assessment by accumulating survey data. Additionally, by linking the obtained results with map information, we will visualize weak areas in the longitudinal direction of embankments and use this for selecting areas for focused inspection and countermeasures.

Through these initiatives, we will expand the application of this technology to the maintenance and safety evaluation of river embankments, contributing to the extension of infrastructure lifespan and the reduction of disaster risks.

By integrating our expertise in geosciences, which is our strength, with digital technology, we will contribute to improving the safety of social infrastructure and realizing a sustainable society.
