'Rakuten Pay' App Launches 'Heatstroke Insurance' for 2026

Rakuten Payment, Inc. and Rakuten Small-Short Insurance Co., Ltd. announced that they have begun offering 'Heatstroke Insurance' on the 'Rakuten Pay' cashless payment service app starting today for 2026. Due to record-breaking heat in recent years, the risk of heatstroke is increasing. Under the 'Heatstroke Insurance,' insurance benefits are paid if the insured suffers physical injury due to sunstroke or heatstroke during the insurance period and receives intravenous treatment at a hospital in Japan based on a doctor's judgment, or begins continuous hospitalization for two days or more (one night, two days) for treatment at a hospital in Japan. Premiums start at 100 yen per day for daily contracts, and monthly contracts are available from 200 yen per month. Furthermore, if you apply by 9:00 AM, coverage starts at 10:00 AM on the same day, allowing users to sign up on the morning of activities such as sports or work under the scorching sun where heatstroke risk is high. Users can navigate from the 'Heatstroke Insurance' icon in the 'Rakuten Pay' app to the Rakuten Small-Short Insurance application page to sign up and make payments smoothly via 'Rakuten Pay.' Additionally, up to 2.5% of 'Rakuten Points' are returned on the premium payment amount, and 'Rakuten Points' can be used for premium payments through 'Rakuten Pay.' In last year's performance, nearly 40% of users utilized 'Rakuten Points' for premium payments.
