Plan International Japan will host a public symposium on June 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM (JST) titled 'Does Banning SNS Solve the Problem? Thinking with Youth about Digital Age Safety.' The hybrid event takes place at the House of Councillors Building (Room B107) and online. It aims to foster a multi-faceted discussion on the 'power to protect life' needed in the SNS era among youth, educators, government, businesses, and experts. The discussion will cover access to accurate information, media literacy, online judgment, and life safety education in the digital age, going beyond mere regulation. The event features opening remarks by House of Representatives members Yoko Kamikawa and Toshiko Abe, and a keynote by Kazuo Takeuchi (Professor, University of Hyogo). A discussion session will include high school and university students, lawmakers, and SNS operators. Participation is free, but pre-registration is required by June 11 (in-person, limit 60) or June 15 (online, unlimited). Co-hosts include JPFP and APDA.
