Pride House Tokyo, a nonprofit organization, has developed and released workplace training materials on the theme of non-binary individuals (※) titled 'Let's Start by Learning: Working Together with Non-Binary Colleagues' in collaboration with sponsor companies. These materials are based on programs that have been successfully used and highly evaluated in corporate training settings. They are available for free download and can be used by any organization, including companies, institutions, and local governments, for internal training.
※Non-binary: Individuals whose gender identity does not fit within the binary concept of 'male/female' (gender binary).
• The training materials can be downloaded via the link below:

※Additional training materials on the following themes are also available: • 'What Allies Can Do: Becoming an Active Bystander!' • 'Let's Start by Learning: Working Together with Transgender and Non-Binary Colleagues'
1. Purpose of the Training
The training materials aim to deepen knowledge about non-binary people and foster deeper understanding by allowing participants to experientially learn (or observe) situations that non-binary individuals commonly face in workplace relationships. The goal is to encourage dialogue on actionable steps and inspire behavioral change.
2. Features of the Training
The training is structured around skits (short plays) and dialogues.
In the skit section, realistic workplace scenarios are enacted by 3–4 participants, including actors portraying non-binary individuals and allies, following prepared scripts. Other participants observe. The skits intentionally include uncomfortable language, unconscious bias, and microaggressions. After the skit, participants discuss how they felt and what improvements they would suggest.
In the dialogue section, participants share their personal reactions and exchange perspectives. Unlike discussions aimed at finding a single correct answer, this dialogue respects diverse viewpoints and values. By sharing varied opinions, participants reflect on themselves, gain new insights, and deepen mutual understanding.
3. Content of the Training
The materials include two workplace scenarios presented as skits. The first depicts casual conversation with a supervisor who unconsciously assumes a gender binary or gender roles. The second shows a team grappling with diverse needs while designing gender-neutral uniforms. Both scenarios portray workplaces 'without malice but not functioning well,' encouraging participants to relate personally.
Additionally, the materials introduce the concept of 'Active Bystander'—taking proactive steps when sexual violence or harassment occurs (or is about to occur)—and provide five concrete actions summarized as 'So-Ba-Ni-I-Te' (Be There).
4. How to Use These Materials in Workplace Training
The materials are released under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), allowing free use for nonprofit purposes such as internal corporate training. We encourage organizations to use these materials to create learning opportunities in the workplace. We welcome feedback and case studies on how the materials are used.
