The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike (Location: Takaragaike, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, General Manager: Keisuke Hitomi) will be selling the special autumn accommodation plan "Jisso-in Monzeki Special Viewing and Tea House Kaiseki Rakuhoku Stay" to commemorate its 40th anniversary this autumn.
The Rakuhoku area, where the hotel is located, is dotted with numerous shrines and temples and has been a place of spiritual solace for ancient Kyoto residents.
Jisso-in Monzeki, introduced in this plan, is a Monzeki temple with imperial family connections, also known as "Iwakura Monzeki" or "Iwakura Goten." It has inherited history and culture in the Rakuhoku-Iwakura area for approximately 800 years, and its guest hall and four-legged gate, relocated from the Omiya Imperial Palace, still retain the vestiges of courtly culture. Through this plan, you can experience the profound history and aesthetic sensibility of Kyoto with guidance from a Jisso-in Monzeki attendant.
For dinner, we will serve a kaiseki meal inspired by the autumn in Rakuhoku at the "Charyo," a sukiya-style building located in the hotel's Japanese garden.
The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike will continue to offer experiences unique to Rakuhoku through collaboration with local shrines and temples, making your stay even more memorable.
View Jisso-in Monzeki's beautiful gardens and screen paintings with an attendant's guidance, a temple with approximately 800 years of history.
☞ The Charm of Jisso-in Monzeki
Founded in the Kamakura period, Jisso-in Monzeki is an esteemed temple with imperial family connections, where the elegance of the imperial court breathes within its buildings and gardens.
Many screen paintings and calligraphy works by the Kano school, such as "Guntsuru-zu Byobu" and "Shiki Kachō-zu," as well as ancient documents, remain. In this plan, you can also view screen paintings like "Kōtei Zōsen-sha Zu Byobu" and the "Teikan-zu" in the alcove, which are normally not open to the public. The "Jisso-in Nikki," a diary kept by successive chief priests for over 400 years, is also preserved, and Mr. Iwatani, an attendant of Jisso-in Monzeki, will guide you through its profound history and world of beauty.

☞ About "Charyo"
"Charyo," a sukiya-style building in the Japanese garden of The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike, was designed by the renowned architect Togo Murano in his later years. The sophisticated design in every detail reflects the craftsmanship of artisans and Murano's aesthetic sensibility.
In addition to seasonal afternoon tea, it can also be used for tea ceremonies and banquets by reservation. Furthermore, to allow guests to experience this special space, we offer free morning access (for overnight guests, irregular holidays) and tea ceremony experience days (limited dates). The Japanese garden is also illuminated according to the season.
☞ The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike: 40 Years of History
Hotel exterior Guest rooms with beautiful curved furniture (Forest Floor Suite Living Room)
At the end of 1983, architect Togo Murano visited Takaragaike for the first time.
It is said that he visited the site several times, sketching repeatedly with the spirit of dedicating his final years to the project. Murano passed away the following year before the hotel's completion, but his disciples carried on his will, and in October 1986, the donut-shaped hotel, harmonizing with the surrounding nature, was born on this site.
True to the hotel's original slogan, "A Beautiful Time of Relaxation," the soft design, which extensively uses curves, still invites guests into a relaxing time.
Murano strongly envisioned this hotel as an "international first-class hotel."
As a hotel located in the "Takaragaike" convention area, it has served as a stage for various conferences, academic meetings, and parties, welcoming many guests, including domestic and international dignitaries.
The accumulated history will continue to be passed down to our staff as a precious legacy that breathes life into our hospitality.
