eBay Japan, operator of the internet shopping mall 'Qoo10' (https://www.qoo10.jp/), conducted a survey on '2026 Summer Bonuses for Working Women' targeting 500 working women across Japan aged 20 to 50.
As the summer bonus season approaches, and amidst continued inflation, we explored how women plan to utilize their precious bonuses. This survey examined bonus spending, 'self-rewards' for hard work in the first half of 2026, and strategies for smart shopping using bonus money.
How the 2026 Summer Bonus will be Spent (Multiple Choice) The survey targeted only women expecting to receive a bonus in the summer of 2026. The results showed that 'Savings/Deposits' was the top priority (55.8%), followed by 'Travel/Leisure' (46.6%).
Self-Rewards and Budgets Approximately half of the women surveyed plan to purchase a self-reward with their 2026 summer bonus, with budgets typically ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 JPY. While some are increasing their reward budgets because they worked harder than last year, others are cutting budgets due to anticipated lower bonus amounts or a conscious effort to save amid rising prices.
Strategies for Smart Shopping More than 60% of respondents are adjusting their spending in preparation for purchasing rewards. Over 70% check multiple sites, look for advantageous coupons, and monitor sales information, indicating a proactive approach to smart consumption during inflationary times.
