R&R Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takayuki Ikeda) announced that its asset management app, 'monomane,' will begin offering apparel repair services starting June 1st. This expansion allows users to request repairs for a wide range of apparel items, such as zipper replacements, in addition to existing services for digital devices like smartphones and PCs. In recent years, institutional frameworks based on the 'Right to Repair' have been rapidly developing, particularly in Europe. This movement, which promotes a culture of repairing and using products for longer rather than discarding them, is especially prominent in the apparel sector, where environmental impact from clothing waste is a major issue. In the EU, initiatives toward a circular economy, such as regulations on the disposal of unsold clothing, are accelerating. In response to these global trends, and based on our philosophy of 'making repair a standard choice to foster a culture of cherishing items for a long time,' we have expanded the repair scope of monomane to include the apparel sector. It is expected that the concept of the 'Right to Repair' will permeate Japan, leading to a significant increase in demand for clothing repair. To meet this demand, it is essential to maintain and develop the infrastructure that supports repairs, including preserving skilled artisans and training the next generation. Currently, the awareness of the 'Right to Repair' in Japan is only about 1% (according to our survey in February 2026). Starting June 1st, users can request apparel repairs through the monomane app. The service covers clothing, bags, and other apparel products, offering repair services for zippers, tears, fraying, buttons, and more via mail-in repair. monomane is a free service that allows consumers to register information about various items they own and manage warranties and images digitally. In the event of a breakdown, users can request repairs online directly through monomane, seamlessly linking asset management with the repair experience. We will continue to strengthen partnerships with various repair providers to build an environment where users can choose the optimal repair method according to their needs.
