Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] is launching a new meetup series, 'Open Base Saturdays.'
We will welcome different guests on the first Saturday night of every month to explore CCBT's 2026 annual theme, 'Civic Fashion,' together.
The first guests are Hiroshi Ashida and Yukako Ishikawa, who will serve as mentors for the 2026 Art Incubation Program. Mr. Ashida specializes in fashion theory and has worked on developing the language to criticize fashion. Ms. Ishikawa, with the motto 'using the city with our own hands,' has accumulated practices related to cities and communities. Through their dialogue, we will begin exploring 'Civic Fashion.'
'Fashion' shares the same etymology as the Latin word 'factio,' meaning 'creating,' 'practicing,' and 'collective action.'
CCBT explicitly states that its purpose is not to question 'clothing (fashion)' itself. This series will examine this undefined theme without limiting it to specific expertise or fields. It will be an opportunity to gain new perspectives on your own 'questions.'
After the talk, 'Base After Hours' will be held as a time to think about those 'questions' together. Please feel free to stay at CCBT and enjoy flat dialogues with guests, attendees, artists, and staff. Bringing in coffee, sandwiches, and snacks is welcome! We will also open the tech lab and CCBT bookshelves.
