The Tokyo Metropolitan Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery, in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, will host the Art Brut 2026 Traveling Exhibition: 'Souzou Training! - Pulling out, Connecting, at This Place -' starting October 10 (Sat), 2026. This exhibition aims to introduce the allure of Art Brut across various locations in Tokyo.

Now in its seventh year, the project seeks to further increase public interest in Art Brut. This time, the gallery has invited 'Hajimari no Art Museum' (Inawashiro Town, Fukushima Prefecture), a pioneer in the field, for a joint curation. The exhibition showcases seven sets of artists selected by the museum's curators, highlighting their power to weave expressions from deeply personal and urgent thoughts.

'Art Brut,' a term coined by French artist Jean Dubuffet, broadly refers to art produced by individuals without formal artistic education, characterized by unique perspectives and expressive methods.

Co-curator 'Hajimari no Art Museum' is operated by the social welfare corporation Asaka Aiikuen and was established within a renovated 140-year-old sake brewery. It serves as a space where welfare and art coexist, aiming to be a catalyst for a more tolerant and creative society.
