At Eurosatory 2026, Rohde & Schwarz announced THORIS, an autonomous counter-drone (C-UAS) solution designed and developed in Germany. The system integrates RF (radio frequency), radar, and EO/IR (electro-optical/infrared) sensors in a modular architecture, enabling real-time detection, tracking, and classification. It is also independent of specific effectors and can be integrated into mobile or fixed platforms.

Paris, June 15, 2026 — On the eve of Eurosatory, the world's premier land defense and security exhibition, Rohde & Schwarz unveiled THORIS, the core of a fully integrated, autonomous counter-drone capability. The system leverages our extensive expertise in sensors, electronic warfare, and systems integration to deliver a modular architecture for high-definition detection, tracking, classification, and disruption of drone threats in all operational modes.
THORIS is based on a layered architecture that fuses RF detection, radar surveillance, and EO/IR imaging to create a single, real-time situational picture. RF antennas provide rapid classification of radio-controlled drones, while radar offers range, speed, and bearing information even when radio signals are weak or absent. Additionally, EO/IR cameras enable high-definition visual identification and precise tracking. All three data streams are processed under a unified command and control environment, allowing operators to maintain situational awareness with high resolution. This integrated picture is then passed to any effector, such as RF jamming or electronic attack, or, if those are not suitable, to the THORIS Laser Countermeasure System (LCS) announced at last week's ILA Berlin Air Show. The LCS is equipped with a high-energy laser from TRUMPF and addresses close-range and overhead threats.
"This layered, effector-independent architecture is essential for countering today's diverse drone threats," says Markus Eiber, Vice President Counter-Drone Systems at Rohde & Schwarz. "By developing all equipment in Germany, we ensure supply chain independence and low lifecycle costs. We also provide a solution that can be easily integrated into existing national defense systems, whether for mobile transport or tactical vehicles, or as a fixed system protecting critical infrastructure."
THORIS is designed to be platform-independent. Its modular design allows customers to scale the number of sensors and processing power according to mission requirements, from small vehicle-mounted packages to large fixed systems, without redesign. The system also supports a universal interface to effectors, enabling seamless handover to any chosen neutralization technology, such as RF jamming, electronic attack, or other non-kinetic means. This maintains a human-in-the-loop process for final decision-making, ensuring compliance with domestic and international rules of engagement.
