Harassment Risks Towards Interns
The Crea Human Resource Nurturing Association (Head office: Kioicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yasuhiro Sakai) has released a video explaining specific 'job-hunting sexual harassment' NG behaviors and countermeasures against harassment towards interns, as indicated in guidelines for corporations. The association will also hold individual interviews for members of the press on May 29, 2026 (Friday).
The newly provided corporate guidelines on job-hunting sexual harassment include specific examples such as 'body touching on the waist or chest during company briefings' and 'sexual jokes or teasing during internships.' Particular attention is needed when dealing with 'interns' who stay in the workplace all day for long periods. Cases are often seen where employees, due to a sense of relaxation, invite interns to private meals or drinks. Persistent invitations to private meals are included as NG behaviors for job-hunting sexual harassment. Repeating invitations after being declined once has a high probability of being considered job-hunting sexual harassment, and companies need to make the clear 'NG line' known to their employees.
