Old Pulteney Celebrates 200th Anniversary with Two Oldest Distillery Releases in History

Celebrating 200 Years of Traditional Craftsmanship and Unwavering Character with the Announcement of Old Pulteney 50 and 30 Years Old.

For two centuries, on the coast where the North Sea meets the Scottish Highlands, Old Pulteney has continued to distill single malt Scotch whisky nurtured by the power of nature. In 2026, the distillery will celebrate its 200th anniversary, announcing two special releases that embody the sea breeze, the passage of time, and an unwavering dedication to craftsmanship that has produced "The Maritime Malt" since 1826.

To commemorate this significant milestone, "Old Pulteney 50 Years Old" and "Old Pulteney 30 Years Old" have been unveiled. Both are exceptionally rare whiskies, born from decades of patience, meticulous cask selection, and the natural environment of the remote coastal town of Wick.

In Japan, they will be available from the end of July 2026 at select retailers through the import agent Sanyo Bussan Co., Ltd.

The Oldest Distillery Release in History

This release, the oldest in the distillery's history, is a true culmination of the unwavering character that has symbolized the brand for the past two centuries.

Maturation Journey:

Utilizing four Hogshead casks, it has spent half a century maturing in the harsh environment of Scotland's northernmost coast. Primarily aged in American oak casks, it fully draws out its coastal character and the blessings of time. A small amount of finishing in Spanish oak (European oak) adds a gentle richness and depth.

Rarity and Design:

Carefully selected by Master of Whisky Creation Sarah Burgess, only 200 bottles have been bottled. The outer box is made of handcrafted premium oak, reminiscent of driftwood, and the decanter is made of hand-blown lead crystal. The bottom is engraved with a wave pattern symbolizing the power of the sea.

This expression embodies the brand's long-held motto, "Character Runs Deep," for 200 years.

Commitment to Craftsmanship:

Utilizing casks personally filled by Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring 30 years ago. After maturing in American oak casks, it was finished in Spanish oak casks, expressing an indomitable and authentic "sea soul."

Iconic Form:

The crystal decanter inherits the distinctive bottle neck shape, an homage to Old Pulteney's unique stills with their flat tops.

Tasting Notes

Old Pulteney 50 Years Old

Color: Dark gold with bright bronze highlights.

Nose: Bold and powerful, with sea breeze aromas followed by layers of plum jam, green apple, creamy vanilla, marmalade toast, and fine leather.

Palate: Dry, with a hint of sea salt and pepper. A maritime character unfolds with layers of toffee apple, cardamom, clove, and sweet tobacco.

Finish: Long, slowly expanding like the turning tide, transitioning from a dry finish to sweet vanilla.

Old Pulteney 30 Years Old

Color: Polished copper hue.

Nose: A harmony of sugar almonds and sweet oak, with pear, green apple, toffee, and a hint of citrus and sea breeze.

Palate: Begins with bright citrus and crisp pear, evolving into salted caramel, baked apple, and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finish: Medium to long, with a pleasant, lingering balance of sweetness and salinity.
