Joint Survey by Five Companies: Launching a Reality Check on Cost Management and Calculation Practices Among Trucking Operators – Visualizing How Costs Are Utilized Amid Rising Expenses

Funai Soken Supply Chain Consulting Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Naoyuki Hashimoto) will jointly conduct a survey titled 'Survey on the Current State of Cost Management and Cost Calculation' targeting trucking operators, together with Ascend Co., Ltd., Azoop Inc., Tsuzuki Electric Co., Ltd., and CRE Inc.

Background of the Survey

The trucking industry plays a critical social infrastructure role by 'delivering goods.' Despite its importance, the industry faces severe financial challenges: the overall operating profit margin stands at 0.0%, and for small-scale operators with 20 or fewer vehicles, it has fallen into negative territory (※1).

While 83% of operators report that they 'conduct cost calculation' (※2), the price pass-through rate in the trucking sector has long remained at the lowest level among all 27 industries (※3), suggesting that cost data is not being fully utilized in freight rate negotiations or strategic decision-making.

In light of these circumstances, this survey aims to clarify the actual practices of cost management—specifically, which cost items are tracked, at what level of detail, and how the data is being used across different companies.
