Shimamura Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 1-602-1 Kitabukuro-cho, Omiya-ku, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture; President & CEO: Iichiro Takahashi) will launch permanent clothing collection at nearly all Shimamura Group stores (Shimamura, Avail, Birthday, Chamble, DivaLo), excluding some locations, starting Tuesday, July 21, 2024.
Since launching a pilot clothing collection program at select stores in 2024 with the goal of reducing post-purchase textile waste, the company has collected over 300 tons of clothing thanks to customer cooperation. With the transition to permanent collection, customers can now conveniently drop off items anytime during their shopping visits.
Purpose of the Clothing Collection Initiative
Shimamura Group has positioned "zero product waste and its continuous evolution" as a core ESG initiative. The company already practices "zero waste" by selling every last piece of inventory (with no surplus stock incinerated or landfilled). This new clothing collection program represents the next evolution—extending waste reduction efforts to post-consumer apparel.
About "Shim-Eco"
Shimamura promotes sustainability through various initiatives under the "Shim-Eco" brand, including waste reduction, resource reuse, and eco-conscious product development. The company has created a dedicated logo to represent its environmental efforts.

How the Clothing Collection System Works
Collected garments are transported to circular hubs operated by partner company ECOMMIT Co., Ltd. At these centers, specialized staff sort items based on condition into two streams: reuse (resale) and recycling (regeneration), enabling circular resource flow through the following pathways:
- Reuse (Resale)
Items are resold domestically and internationally through ECOMMIT’s circular service platform "PASSTO."
- Recycling (Regeneration)
Through the "MUDA ZERO" project by partner Kaitack Family Co., Ltd., garments are recycled into new fibers. Products made from these regenerated fibers will be sold by the Shimamura Group starting in fiscal year 2025.
