Takashi Atoda, a Naoki Prize-winning author who has written over 900 short stories, released his essay collection '90-Year-Old Man Living Alone' through Shinchosha on September 25th. The book, which offers witty wisdom on living alone as an elderly man, has become a major hit, surpassing 40,000 copies. His final short story collection, 'With Love from the Palm,' is also currently on sale. Atoda is 91 years old (90 at the time of publication). Since his wife moved into a care facility, he has been living alone. The book captures his daily life with his characteristic wit, embracing aging with the motto 'It's okay if things are just so-so' and 'Humor is essential in old age.' From checking his face in the mirror to simple cooking and enjoying Rakugo by reading it, the book is a rich collection of wisdom accumulated over 90 years.
