Kaho Miyake, known for her books such as "Why Reading Becomes Difficult When You Work," "The Art of Verbalizing What You Love," and "What Do People with Interesting Conversations Read?", will release her latest book, "How to Live with Your Oshi," on Friday, July 17th.

Baseball, theater, idols, VTubers, anime... In Japan, the "oshi" (favorite) culture has flourished in a wide variety of fields, from the past to the present.

And now, in the Reiwa era, "oshi-katsu" is no longer just a temporary craze. How can we build a sustainable relationship with our "oshi," who are not only present on special "hare" (festive) days but also in our "ke" (everyday) lives?

This book, full of discovery and excitement, unravels the historical flow to explain why this country is so passionate about "oshi-katsu" and considers the future that lies beyond.

When it comes to oshi-katsu, aspects like "blind devotion" and "spending wars" are still emphasized. It is often said that oshi-katsu is only about being passionate, unsustainable, and engaging in competition and controversy. (Omitted) However, this is only a portion of the fans.

Not everyone engages in oshi-katsu like that.

Everyone grows older with their oshi.

—So, how can we live with our oshi? (Omitted)

In this book, we trace the history of "oshi-katsu" in Japan and consider how we can live with our "oshi" in contemporary times.

Author's Comment

How can we enjoy oshi-katsu in a healthy and fun way? I explored this question by looking at the modern and contemporary history of Japanese culture. Starting with stories about baseball and Takarazuka, I also cover the origin of audition programs and a certain work announced this year! What does "oshi" mean to Japanese people? Won't you think about it with me?

Book Contents

For Japanese people, oshi-katsu is no longer a temporary craze. While contemporary "oshi" provide us with "hare" (festive) days, they also teach us that they are present in our "ke" (everyday) lives. This is a culture that has deeply permeated society. So, how can we build a sustainable relationship with such "oshi"? This book traces the origins of "oshi-katsu" culture to the forefront of the Reiwa era, vividly deciphering the "structure of oshi" in a post-consumer society.
