Shochiku to Release 'Yatsuhakamura 4K Digital Restored Edition' UHD Blu-ray on Sept 16, 2026

Shochiku Co., Ltd. has announced the September 16, 2026 release of 'Yatsuhakamura 4K Digital Restored Edition' on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (8,800 yen), Blu-ray (6,050 yen), and DVD. Directed by Yoshitaro Nomura and written by Shinobu Hashimoto, this 1977 blockbuster adapted Seishi Yokomizo's novel. It stars Kiyoshi Atsumi as the famous detective Kosuke Kindaichi, alongside Kenichi Hagiwara, Mayumi Ogawa, and Tsutomu Yamazaki. The movie was filmed over 2 years and 3 months with over 120 cast members and 2,000 extras. The 4K restoration was meticulously scanned from the original negative to enhance colors and dark scenes, such as the cave and the legendary '32 murders' scene. The audio has also been upgraded from the original 4.0ch tape to a '5.1ch REMIX' surround sound system under the supervision of the original staff. The release includes a miniature replica of the 1977 theater pamphlet and 4 photo cards as enclosed bonuses. A special promotional video has been released online.
