The Metropolitan Opera (MET), located in New York City, is one of the world’s most prestigious opera companies. Its groundbreaking series "MET Live in HD" brings live performances from the MET stage directly to movie theaters across Japan and beyond, allowing audiences to experience world-class opera without leaving their cities.
The highly anticipated "MET Live in HD 2026-27 Season" will open on Friday, November 20, at 21 cinemas nationwide!
We are excited to announce the official release of the <poster and flyer visuals> and <scene stills>!
This anniversary season features eight must-see, must-hear operas composed by some of the most beloved figures in classical music.
The MET Live in HD series began on New Year's Eve 2006 with a screening of Mozart’s "The Magic Flute." Starting in just four countries—including Japan—and 98 theaters, this innovative project has grown over 20 years into a global phenomenon, now broadcast to over 2,200 screens in more than 70 countries. With more than ten high-definition cameras capturing dynamic angles, immersive 5.1 surround sound, and exclusive backstage interviews during intermissions—normally unseen by audiences—this historic initiative continues to break down the barriers between opera houses and movie theaters. This year, it celebrates its 20th anniversary milestone.

For this special anniversary season, eight dramatic productions will be screened:
- Mozart’s witty romantic comedy "Così fan tutte," a dangerous bet on lovers’ fidelity - Verdi’s psychological drama "Macbeth," based on Shakespeare’s tale of ambition and paranoia - Saint-Saëns’ grand spectacle "Samson and Delilah," a tale of love and betrayal between a mighty hero and a seductive femme fatale - Puccini’s unconventional Western opera "La Fanciulla del West," a pure love story between a saloon owner and a fugitive - Poulenc’s moving human drama "Dialogues des Carmélites," inspired by true events during wartime - Massenet’s tragic masterpiece "Manon," depicting the downfall of a fatal beauty - Verdi’s intense psychological thriller "Otello," often considered superior to Shakespeare’s original - Wagner’s final and sublime opera "Parsifal," the crowning achievement of the "Master of Music Drama"
Each is a hidden gem by a celebrated composer!
This season features a stellar cast of rising stars leading the new generation of opera, including Lise Davidsen, Nadine Sierra, and Aigul Akhmetshina. Additionally, the world-renowned soprano Elina Garanca makes her long-awaited return to the MET stage since the 2018–19 season! This is an unparalleled lineup of exceptional talent.
The newly unveiled poster features a brand-new still from "Macbeth," showcasing Quinn Kelsey—the acclaimed Verdi baritone—and Lise Davidsen, praised as having "a voice for one in a million," in an intimate moment. The inside of the flyer includes production stills and highlights from each opera.
