Showa Nishikawa Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chuo Ward, Tokyo; President: Genichiro Nishikawa) delivered custom-made 'Makurabo' pillows on Thursday, September 3, 'Sleep Day,' as part of its third annual Noto recovery support initiative. This year, specialized pillow-making staff crafted personalized pillows for medical and caregiving professionals in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, as a gesture of gratitude.
Third-Year Initiative: Supporting the Pillars of the Community
Following the Noto Peninsula earthquake in Reiwa 6 (2024), Showa Nishikawa launched this initiative with the mission of supporting the well-being of local residents through better sleep. In the first year, 190 custom pillows were delivered to Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. In 2025, an additional 90 pillows were provided, along with maintenance services for previously delivered pillows.
In this third year, the company hosted a support event in Nanao City to express gratitude and deliver comfortable sleep environments to medical staff and caregivers who support the community. On the day, a limited number of 'Makurabo' custom pillows were gifted, with specialized staff tailoring each pillow to the individual and presenting it directly.
Also participating were Kiana Tomita, Miss World Japan 2024, and Sairara Tsuji, 1st Runner-up Miss World Japan 2024, both sponsored by Showa Nishikawa. They engaged personally with attendees, conveying gratitude and encouragement to those supporting the region.
Kiana Tomita "This event offered a precious opportunity to hear firsthand experiences from local residents—stories only they could share. I listened directly to evacuees about how difficult it is to maintain health when even basic needs like clothing, food, and shelter are hard to secure during disasters. Many participants experienced custom pillows for the first time, and their excited, hopeful expressions while testing the pillows left a deep impression. I feel truly honored to have participated in delivering Showa Nishikawa’s high-quality pillows to those in need, knowing that good sleep contributes to a healthy and secure life."
Sairara Tsuji "I was deeply moved to see people who had struggled with sleep say with smiles, 'It’s completely different!' and 'I’m looking forward to sleeping!' after trying the custom pillows. Since sleep is essential to daily life, I sincerely appreciate the ongoing effort to deliver such meaningful, everyday-focused gifts. This year, the initiative expanded to include medical, caregiving, and childcare professionals—those who dedicate themselves to others every day. I find this expansion truly admirable."
Showa Nishikawa will continue its community-centered activities to support the healthy daily lives of Noto residents through better sleep.
