Horror Reading Musical "CABINET OF DOLLS" Synopsis

On a night of a red full moon. Lined up in the grand hall of a mysterious mansion are four beautiful young girl dolls.

The owner of the doll collection is the grotesque master of the mansion. According to him, the dolls were originally living humans. Bathed in the light of the red moon, the dolls begin to speak. They tell how they came to be in this form – one girl was swallowed by a cursed dollhouse, another disappeared while trying to solve a mystery in ruins, a third encountered a strange phenomenon in a hospital in broad daylight, and a fourth despaired at her tragic birth.

– Will the beautiful girl dolls be able to return to human form? Set to the dark and gothic strains of a violin, the young girl dolls speak and sing. Four ephemeral, pitiable, and cruelly beautiful stories.

Doronzu Ishimoto Comment

When I first heard about the stage with Phantom Siita, I was surprised! Then, after listening to their singing voices many times, I became convinced that "this is going to be an incredibly exciting stage!" What kind of musical will it be with their performances, singing voices, and captivating presence? I can't stop being excited about being able to perform on the same stage.

And since this is my first attempt at a "reading musical," I think I feel the same way as the audience who will come to see it right now! What kind of stage will it be? (laughs) I would be grateful if many people could come and enjoy it together. I'll do my best to be able to join the Phantom Siita members by the end of the show (laughs). I will do my utmost, so thank you for your support.

When I first saw Phantom Siita, I was struck by how they seemed like "girls who had stepped out of Yumeno Kyusaku's "Shojo Jigoku"!" Their performances, which are both alluring and sparkle with girlish purity, reject intoxication and pierce the audience's eyes and hearts like a sharp blade. What terrifying children! To be able to take on the challenge of a horror reading musical, a first for me, with them! I am trembling with unexpected joy every day. Beautiful girls, dolls, singing voices that tear through the darkness – this project is packed with elements that would make my Rampo and Kyusaku tastes explode. Please look forward to a stage woven by beautiful maidens, as gruesome as it is beautiful!

【Music & Performance】 Akiko Igaki Comment

When I was told about "Phantom Siita, who has incredible singing ability, performing a horror reading musical, along with two dancers and puppet performances," I was overwhelmed by the amount of information, and my heart was pounding with both excitement and anticipation. I am also very much looking forward to the individual performances of each member of Phantom Siita. I wonder what kind of spice I can add to the work's world, which is likely Mr. Mashiyama's favorite. I will do my best to create a work that is both terrifying and beautiful.

【Photography & Original Concept】 Kina Hiraki Comment

Beauty and terror are always in a close relationship.

Since childhood, I have been captivated by beings where both coexist precariously.

I remember having dreams of silent dolls staring at me as if trying to convey something, even back then. In the photobook, the memories dwelling within the dolls reflect the darkness of human girls.

Living in reality sometimes brings pain. That is why administering a potent drug like madness or horror can sometimes be a form of healing. The reason I am drawn to worlds of madness is that the act of reaching into the darkness and struggling desperately is extremely active. Struggling at the bottom of a dim swamp. That, too, is a form of human beauty.

It is only thanks to Phantom Siita's overwhelming expressive power that the contrast of life, vividly brought out by madness, can be realized. In this photobook, I wanted to depict the liberation from such curses. I cannot wait to see how the girls will dance on stage. The world we see is a dream, but the dream of the night is the truth.

【Planning & Production】 Kotaro Ihara Comment

While stage adaptations of published works are familiar, I believe that the simultaneous launch of a <photobook> and a <reading musical> is unprecedented. In this era of tremendous AI, I believe that live stages created and performed by humans hold an irreplaceable value. I hope to present a new warmth of entertainment IP through this work, together with our wonderful cast and staff.
