The 20th Umeda Tanabata: Authentic Sendai Streamers to Decorate Osaka in Anniversary Celebration

The "Umeda Tanabata" festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Originally established to bring the vibrant atmosphere of the Sendai Tanabata Festival—one of Tohoku's three major festivals—to Osaka, the event offers visitors a chance to experience authentic traditional culture.

Authentic Sendai Streamers at Umeda In alignment with the official Sendai Tanabata Festival (August 6–8), large-scale decorative streamers will be on display at the entrance of Shin Umeda City until August 8. These colorful decorations transform the venue into an extraordinary festive space.

"Wishing Strips" (Tanzaku): June 1 – July 7 At the "Takimi-koji" gourmet street, which features a retro Showa-era atmosphere, customers dining at local restaurants will receive wishing strips. These strips can be hung on bamboo branches, creating a traditional landscape filled with visitors' hopes and dreams.

Interactive Summer Events: July 4, 5, and 7 - Kids' Fair (16:00–20:00): A nostalgic mini-festival at Takimi-koji offering a classic Japanese summer experience. - Floating Bamboo Lanterns (17:00–21:00): Held at the "Star Pocket" area, visitors can release bamboo-leaf lanterns (Sasafune) with written wishes onto the pond. (Limited to the first 300 participants per day). - Jazz Live Performances (18:00–21:00): Evening jazz sessions will be held three times daily (18:00, 19:00, and 20:00) at Star Pocket, providing a sophisticated atmosphere for the Tanabata nights.

Located at Shin Umeda City, the event is free to the public and offers numerous photogenic spots featuring lanterns and traditional decorations.
