Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Taito-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akihiro Kosaka, hereinafter "Tokyo Metro"), SMBC Card Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takeya Sasaki, hereinafter "SMBC Card"), and JCB Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman and President: Takayoshi Futae, hereinafter "JCB") will jointly launch the "Tokyo Metro Summer Credit Card Ride Reward Campaign" on Thursday, July 16, 2026, covering all Tokyo Metro lines.
Tokyo Metro has been offering a post-paid ride service using contactless payment cards (credit, debit, prepaid) or smartphones with such cards (hereinafter "credit card ride"※1) since Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The credit card ride system allows passengers to pass through ticket gates directly using their credit cards without purchasing a physical ticket from a vending machine. This service enhances convenience for regular commuters and domestic and international travelers alike, promotes cashless payments, and helps reduce congestion around ticket vending areas.
In Tokyo, travel demand from both domestic and international visitors typically increases during the summer vacation period, leading to a rise in passengers unfamiliar with public transportation systems. By using the credit card ride service, passengers can enter and exit stations without relying on ticket machines or cash, reducing travel burden and enabling more efficient use of limited stay time. In light of this, the campaign aims to encourage more passengers to try the credit card ride service during the summer break.
During the campaign period, Visa cardholders will receive a 30% cashback on their credit card ride payments on Tokyo Metro lines (maximum ¥600 per campaign period). JCB will offer 20 times the normal J-POINTS for eligible J-POINT-accumulating cards (normally 1 point per ¥200, increased to 20 points during the campaign).
Additionally, a customer survey will be conducted for users of the credit card ride service during the campaign. While Tokyo Metro continues to focus on IC cards as its primary transit payment method, the company will use insights from this survey to understand customer feedback on the convenience of credit card rides and apply them to future service improvements.
