♦ Main Tourist Spots for "Kitamae-bune Ships" at Each Port

The Kitamae-bune ships were merchant vessels that were active on the Sea of Japan route connecting Osaka and Hokkaido from the Edo to Meiji periods. They not only transported cargo but also generated enormous profits as "moving general trading companies," with ship owners buying goods cheaply in one port and selling them at a higher price in another.

This route is registered as a Japan Heritage site under the theme "A Different World Woven by the Dreams of Men Who Crossed Rough Seas ~Kitamae-bune Port of Call and Shipowner Settlements~."
