Group Homes for People with Disabilities are Welfare Infrastructure Supporting a Secure Life
While there are various welfare support and employment services to help people with disabilities live with peace of mind, housing options remain limited. This is due to challenges such as the difficulty of living alone for those who need daily support, concerns about "after parents are gone" even when living with family, and disparities in support systems and acceptance frameworks across regions, which affect the ease of living depending on the area.
Group homes for people with disabilities are facilities that form the foundation of life for individuals with disabilities who face challenges and anxieties regarding housing, supporting their lives in the community.
Group homes for people with disabilities play a crucial role as a system that enables individuals with disabilities to achieve independent living by receiving necessary support, and to continue living with peace of mind in their familiar communities.
Through the operation of group homes for people with disabilities, Social Inclu Co., Ltd. supports the lives of people with disabilities, promotes their independence, and works to solve the social issue of housing shortages for those with severe disabilities.
What is Social Inclu Home Kuwana Motosukaga?
1. Group Home with Daytime Service Support A group home with daytime service support is a group home for people with disabilities where individuals who require continuous support during the day, such as those with severe disabilities or elderly individuals with disabilities, can live while receiving daily life support on a 24/7/365 basis. (*1)
Since a short-stay facility (*2) is also attached, individuals other than residents can use it as a temporary accommodation when family members are out, need a break, or in emergencies.
2. Support Tailored to Disability Characteristics To enable individuals with severe disabilities to lead independent lives, we provide support tailored to their disability status on a 24-hour basis.
In addition to daily life support such as bathing and toileting, meals are prepared with consideration for nutritional balance, including pureed meals and porridge, tailored to the residents, and meal assistance is provided to those who need it. Health and medication management are performed daily, and staff accompany residents to medical appointments and shopping. During the day, leisure activities are prepared to suit the residents. We support the independent daily lives of residents by assisting with the management of finances necessary for daily living.
Before admission, staff with specialized qualifications will conduct interviews regarding the individual's disability status and the type of assistance required for daily life, and create an individualized support plan based on each person's wishes and disability status. After admission, we have a system in place to quickly identify changes in condition through continuous observation and recording of daily life, progress, and transitions. Furthermore, support plans are reviewed more frequently than legally required, allowing for flexible responses to changing needs and conditions, and providing optimal support.
3. Operational Structure Supporting a Secure Living Environment Group homes with daytime service support have operational standards, including staffing levels and facility equipment, defined by law. A system is required to provide monitoring and support around the clock to support the lives of those who need assistance day and night. Facility equipment must be barrier-free, and the living environment must be adapted to the individual's disability status.
Social Inclu Homes have a policy of providing a support system that exceeds legal requirements, such as a standard of two staff members per unit (*3) during nighttime hours. (*4)
In addition, the building is newly constructed for the group home, and is barrier-free with accessible toilets, bathing lifts, entrance slopes, and elevators, allowing individuals in wheelchairs to live there. Security and disaster prevention equipment such as security cameras and sprinklers are also installed.
(*1) Daytime service support is a type of shared living support (group home) for people with disabilities, established in 2018 to address the increasing severity and aging of disabilities. Shared living support is a category of welfare services for people with disabilities stipulated in the Act on Support for Persons with Disabilities, and there are four types: comprehensive care type, daytime service support type, external service utilization type, and satellite type. (*2) A short-stay facility is a facility that must be attached to a daytime service support facility and provides emergency temporary support for people with disabilities living in the community. (*3) A unit is a living unit equipped with the necessary facilities for residents (private rooms, dining/living room, kitchen, bath, toilet, washbasin, etc.), and one unit consists of 2 to 10 people. (*4) In shared living support, the number and placement standards for employees (staff supporting users) are determined by the number of users and their disability support classification. During nighttime and late-night hours, at least one staff member must be present. At Social Inclu Homes, the standard is a two-person system during nighttime and late-night hours, but it may be one person depending on recruitment status.
