Expansion of Small-Format Department Stores
On Thursday, June 11, Sogo & Seibu will open a new small-format department store called 'Sogo & Seibu Shop' at Aeon Lake Town (Koshigaya, Saitama), one of Japan's largest shopping malls managed by Aeon Mall Co., Ltd. As part of its growth strategy, the company is accelerating the opening of small-format stores, aiming to attract new customers even in areas where the Sogo & Seibu brand is less familiar, by leveraging its strength in proposing gift-giving culture.
The new store will be located on the first floor of the 'kaze' wing in Aeon Lake Town, a massive commercial facility consistently ranking among the top shopping malls in Japan by annual sales. The store will focus on gift-oriented items such as traditional Japanese sweets and popular desserts typically found at high-end department stores. This marks the fifth small-format store following those in Mishima, Kashiwa, Musashikosugi, and Kawaguchi, aiming to be a community-based retail space.
Extensive Gift Lineup and New Feature
The 'Sogo & Seibu Shop' will feature approximately 35 famous department store food brands and about five types of gift catalogs.
Furthermore, the self-curated 'Shokoku Meika' department, which gathers well-loved Japanese and Western sweets from across the country, will be introduced to a small-format store for the first time. Customers can easily enjoy seasonal limited items and local Saitama confectioneries, with about 20 varieties always available, which can be purchased individually.
