System Research Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture), which operates "Souseisaku Mall Alulu" (hereinafter referred to as Alulu Mall), conducted a survey on "How AI-Generated Images and Videos Are Used" targeting individuals who have seen AI-generated images and videos.
The survey results showed that 62.7% responded, "I want it to be displayed as AI-generated."
Furthermore, 66.0% responded that they feel resistance to "being used without knowing it is AI-generated."
This indicates that more people desire "the state of being identifiable as AI-generated" rather than the AI itself.
On the other hand, the most common impression of AI-generated images and videos themselves was "cannot say either way" at 50.3%, suggesting that opinions on AI technology itself are not yet settled.
Survey Results
66.0% Resist "Being Used Without Knowing It's AI"
When asked about the ways AI-generated images and videos are used that cause resistance:
Being used without knowing it is AI-generated: 66.0%
Being used for news and information dissemination: 29.0%
Using non-existent people as models: 27.7%
This was the breakdown.
It was found that many people feel strong resistance to "being used without knowing it is AI" rather than to AI technology itself.
Additionally, "news and information dissemination" and "using non-existent people as models" showed relatively high percentages. This suggests a cautious view on AI usage in situations where information reliability and existence are required.
"I want it displayed as AI-generated" is 62.7%
When asked about their thoughts on AI-generated images and videos:
I want it displayed as AI-generated: 62.7%
It's okay depending on where it's used: 15.7%
It's okay if there's no discomfort, even if AI-generated: 8.3%
This was the breakdown.
It appears that many people do not uniformly reject AI-generated content but rather seek "a state where it is identifiable as AI-generated."
This result seems to reflect a consciousness that prioritizes "the user's ability to judge" over AI technology itself.
"Cannot Say Either Way" is the Most Common Impression of AI-Generated Images/Videos
When asked about impressions of AI-generated images and videos:
Cannot say either way: 50.3%
Have a somewhat negative impression: 23.0%
Have a somewhat positive impression: 11.3%
This was the breakdown.
It appears that many people are withholding judgment, rather than strongly favoring or rejecting AI-generated images and videos themselves.
Social Acceptance Expected, but Cautious Views Also Present
When asked if they think AI-generated images and videos will be accepted by society in the future:
I think regulations will be necessary: 28.7%
I think they will be accepted only for limited uses: 25.7%
I think they will be widely accepted: 23.3%
This was the breakdown.
While there are predictions of the spread of AI-generated content, it is also evident that many people prioritize its usage methods and rule development.
What is Desired is "Identifiability," Not "AI Prohibition"
In this survey, not many people showed strong rejection towards "AI-generated images and videos themselves." On the other hand, 66.0% felt resistance to "being used without knowing it is AI-generated," and 62.7% responded, "I want it displayed as AI-generated."
As AI-generated content becomes more widespread, consumers may not be seeking to eliminate AI, but rather to "appropriately communicate that it is AI, enabling users to make judgments."
