★★★★★★ TYPHOON MAX★★★★★★★
Today (July 9), the Meteorological Administration issued a sea warning for powerful Typhoon Bavi. The typhoon is currently moving northwest over the waters east of Taiwan and is expected to approach northern and northeastern Taiwan by July 10.
As a result, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Keelung City, and Taoyuan City are highly likely to implement a two-day consecutive typhoon holiday starting July 10. Local governments are expected to make official announcements in the afternoon or evening of the previous day, after assessing wind and rain intensity and transportation impacts.
It has not yet been confirmed whether a typhoon holiday will be implemented nationwide on July 10. Central and southern regions are currently expected to operate as usual, although this could change depending on developments.
Typhoon Bavi maintains strong intensity, with a central pressure of 975 hPa, maximum sustained winds of 35 m/s, and gusts up to 50 m/s. Coastal areas face risks of high waves and gales. Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is forecast in northeastern and mountainous regions, raising concerns for landslides and river flooding.
Transportation disruptions are anticipated, including flight cancellations (domestic and international), suspension of ferries and high-speed vessels, and potential highway closures. Rail operators have also indicated possible service suspensions, affecting commuting and school travel.
Many businesses and schools are preparing for remote work and online classes, while local authorities are preparing emergency shelters. Supermarkets and convenience stores are seeing increased purchases of emergency supplies such as food, batteries, and flashlights.
The Meteorological Administration urges the public to stay updated on the typhoon’s path and intensity changes, advising frequent monitoring of official updates. The closest approach is expected during the morning of July 10, when residents are strongly advised to avoid going out and ensure personal safety.
Official decisions on work and school suspensions are expected to be announced one after another by local governments from the afternoon to evening of July 9.
