Taiwan's stock market has surged this year, with the weighted index repeatedly setting records. TSMC (2330), known as the 'national guardian mountain,' has also hit new highs, sparking global interest in when the index might reach 50,000 points. However, KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-Wen recently stated that while Taiwan's stock market nears 50,000, 'its roots and heart are almost rotten.' In response, Wealth & Finance Media Chairman Hsieh Jin-He posted on Facebook today (9th), titled 'Appreciating blessings is the true nature of Taiwanese people,' asserting that while Taiwan may fall short compared to others, its people's hearts are kind. 'Only politicians with hearts toward China cannot bear Taiwan's beauty!'

Is the 50,000-point milestone just superficial? Why Cheng Li-Wen's remarks sparked controversy

On the 3rd, Cheng Li-Wen attended the 2026 'Women's Policy Promotion and Development Cultural and Educational Foundation Volunteer Conference.' She criticized that the KMT continues to be persecuted by the DPP, with party assets seized and subjected to unjust judicial suppression, yet the KMT remains stable. Cheng stated bluntly that Taiwan's surface appears dazzling, with the stock market nearing 50,000 points, but the reality is that Taiwan's roots and heart are nearly rotten. She added that without the foundation left by the KMT, there would be no TSMC, and without TSMC, Taiwan would have no high-tech industry. 'Many people are actually very confused about the future!'

Hsieh responded that Cheng's claim that the 50,000-point market is superficial has drawn online criticism, with some netizens saying, 'Only those with ugly, rotten hearts see what they imagine!'

Why has TSMC always been doubted? 'A one-man martial arts world' faces skepticism

Hsieh gave an example: in Taiwan, there have always been voices doubting TSMC since it was at 200 TWD, with the worst predicting it would follow Toshiba's path and eventually go bankrupt. More moderate critics said, 'Taiwan is just TSMC's one-man martial arts world!' Hsieh contrasted that while personal opinions should be respected, many disagree with Cheng's claim that Taiwan is 'rotting,' as Taiwan's current economic and stock market performance places it in a historic era, gradually regaining confidence. In contrast, many short videos in China feature repetitive plots, revealing a society filled with opportunism and extreme pragmatism—this, Hsieh argues, is the true essence of rot.

How brilliant is Taiwan's economic performance? Stock market rose nearly 60% in the first half

Hsieh stated that most Taiwanese are kind, do not bully other countries or exert long-arm jurisdiction, and are more generous in disaster relief donations. For example, after Japan's 3/11 earthquake, Taiwan's donations are still remembered by the Japanese. Similarly, Taiwan ranked among the top donors during China's Wenchuan earthquake. He also quoted TSMC founder Morris Chang: 'Life or career is a marathon; success often comes from sustained effort.' Reviewing this year's first half, Taiwan's stock market rose nearly 60%, not matching South Korea's over 100% surge but far outperforming Shanghai and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index. Meanwhile, Indonesia's stock market fell 34.65%, the rupiah plunged to 18,002 per dollar, suffering a triple blow in stocks, currency, and bonds. Turkey's lira is also on the verge of collapse. 'Taiwan's performance has been outstanding!'
