Taiwan Typhoon Forum | Weather Express analyzed on its Facebook page that Typhoon Bavi represents the closest realization of a northwest typhoon affecting Taiwan in the past decade. With a massive storm radius of 380 kilometers, nearly the entire island will fall within the storm zone, making it a typhoon felt across Taiwan. The typhoon center is most likely to pass near the offshore waters of northeastern Taiwan, with a secondary possibility of a northwest track and a lower chance of landfall. Saturday (11th) will be the most severely affected period, with impacts ending by Sunday (12th) as the typhoon rapidly moves into China. Although Bavi will gradually weaken as it approaches Taiwan, it will still maintain strength at the upper end of a moderate typhoon to the lower end of a strong typhoon, and the public across regions should not underestimate the threat.

Northern Taiwan may experience its most impactful typhoon day in recent years on Saturday! Rainfall along the Xueshan Mountain Range is expected to be substantial.

Taiwan Typhoon Forum | Weather Express emphasized that regardless of whether the typhoon center makes landfall, the core of the storm will pass directly over northern Taiwan. Given Bavi’s intensity, northern Taiwan could face its most impactful typhoon conditions in recent years. On Friday (10th), outer circulation will first reach northern land areas, bringing intermittent wind and rain. Rain and wind will gradually intensify at night, leading to strong winds and heavy rain throughout Saturday.

In terms of rainfall, the forum specifically warned that cumulative rainfall along the mountainous areas of northern Taiwan, particularly the Xueshan Mountain Range, is predicted to be considerable, and preparations for heavy rain are essential.

Yilan and northern Hualien are on the front line of the typhoon! If landfall occurs, it is highly likely to happen in this region.

Yilan and northern Hualien are in the direct path of the typhoon. Intermittent wind and rain will begin on Friday, intensifying throughout the night, with peak conditions expected on Saturday daytime. The meteorological team specifically warned that if the typhoon ultimately makes landfall, it is highly likely to occur in the Yilan area, where direct exposure to the eyewall would bring extreme winds and torrential rain. Since landfall may only be confirmed when the typhoon center is very close, residents of Yilan should remain highly alert throughout.

Central and southern lowlands will experience strong gusts starting Friday! Winds of at least level 10 expected on Saturday, with stronger rain and wind in Hengchun

Due to Typhoon Bavi’s large size, the Central Mountain Range cannot fully block it. Airflow will wrap around the island and affect western regions. Central and southern lowlands and the Penghu Islands are expected to experience strong gusts starting Friday daytime, with wind intensity peaking on Saturday. Current forecasts suggest winds of at least level 10, and due to topographic effects, Hengchun Peninsula will experience stronger wind and rain than other areas.

Regarding rainfall, intermittent wind and rain will begin late Friday night. Once the typhoon passes the northern tip of Taiwan on Saturday, central and southern regions will shift to the windward side, resulting in more pronounced rainfall. Mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan will remain largely unaffected before Friday, but rainfall will become significant after the typhoon crosses northern Taiwan on Saturday, with forecasted amounts expected to be substantial. Preparations for heavy rain are strongly advised. After the typhoon passes, from Sunday into next Monday, lingering moisture will keep central and southern regions rainy for another day or two.

Southern Hualien and Taitung will experience relatively the least wind and rain! But extreme heat from foehn winds possible Saturday morning

Due to mountain blockage, southern Hualien and Taitung are the regions with the least wind and rain across Taiwan. However, the meteorological team specifically warned that foehn winds may occur Saturday morning, with the Huatung Valley as a hotspot, requiring vigilance for extreme high temperatures. In the afternoon, after the typhoon passes and winds shift to southerly, coastal Taitung will see increased wind and rain, requiring continued attention.

Kinmen less affected, Matsu at risk of direct typhoon core strike

For outlying islands, Kinmen is farther from the typhoon center and thus less affected, requiring only attention to rainfall from outer circulation. Matsu, however, faces a different situation—it may be directly impacted by the typhoon core. From Saturday to Sunday (11th–12th), special attention must be paid to the strong winds and heavy rain brought by the typhoon core.
