Typhoon Bavi is steadily approaching Taiwan. The Central Weather Bureau states that if the typhoon's speed and path remain largely unchanged, a land warning is expected to be issued early tomorrow morning. Many meteorological experts predict significant impacts on northern Taiwan, prompting residents to prepare emergency supplies. Citizens in Taipei are particularly concerned about whether a typhoon day off will be declared.

In response, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said in an interview today (9th) that he hopes residents will avoid unnecessary outings and stay home on Friday and Saturday, while ensuring all typhoon preparedness measures are completed in advance.

Regarding whether Taipei will suspend work and classes tomorrow, Chiang stated that the city government will, in principle, make an announcement after 8 PM tonight following discussions with four neighboring counties. He emphasized that the typhoon's trajectory could still change, and the city must carefully assess wind and rainfall conditions. He reiterated that any suspension would be decided on a full-day basis.

Chiang stressed that the typhoon's impact is expected to peak from Friday evening through Saturday night and all day Saturday, according to meteorological team forecasts. He referenced past typhoons such as Soudelor in 2015 and earlier Aere, which caused severe damage in Taipei due to intense winds and torrential rain. He and his team have been on high alert, visiting Wenshan District in the morning and Xinyi, Songshan, and Neihu districts in the afternoon to inspect preparedness efforts.

He reiterated his appeal for the public to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary and to remain at home with full typhoon preparations in place.
