In the upcoming year-end Nine-in-One elections, the Kuomintang (KMT) has fielded legislators Hsieh Lung-chieh, Ke Zhien, and Su Ching-chuan to challenge the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County, respectively. They are running against DPP mayoral candidates Chen Ting-fei in Tainan, Lai Jui-long in Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi. On the online program 'Green Also Flips the Table,' former legislator Lo Ching-biao analyzed the race, stating that if former Legislative Yuan President Wang Jin-pyng treats the Kaohsiung mayoral election as his own campaign, Ke Zhien has a chance to win.
Why is there no spark despite close support in New Taipei?
Lo Ching-biao noted that this year's elections lack intense head-to-head battles. The most heated campaign so far is in Taipei City, where polling gaps are widest—but he argued that the Taipei race is ultimately meaningless. In New Taipei City, there was potential for a competitive race, but KMT mayoral candidate Lee Sih-tsai avoids personal attacks. Although Lee's support level is close to that of DPP candidate Su Tsiao-hui, the campaign lacks excitement.

Lo believes the Kaohsiung mayoral race hinges on Wang Jin-pyng’s level of involvement. If Wang treats this race as his own, Ke Zhien could win. Ke's campaign strategy is already set and difficult to change. She is not an aggressive debater, and if she does not directly criticize Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai during the campaign, many key issues cannot be effectively raised.
Lo Ching-biao: Hsieh Lung-chieh mostly challenges Lai Qing-de directly
Regarding Tainan and Pingtung, Lo pointed out that Hsieh Lung-chieh rarely attacks local DPP governance and instead focuses on challenging President Lai Qing-de directly. However, he emphasized that an election cannot succeed without criticizing the Tainan city government. In Pingtung, no major issues have emerged, and Su Ching-chuan is not adopting an aggressive strategy. The current electoral coldness stems from the absence of explosive head-to-head confrontations.
