Japanese-Taiwanese media personality Yaiko Akito was recently attacked by a Chinese national surnamed Liao. In response, DPP legislator Shen Po-yang and UMC founder Robert Tsao joined Akito in holding a press conference to condemn the 'cross-border assault.' On his program 'News in Plain Words,' veteran media figure Chen Hui-wen mocked the trio and urged support for Shen Po-yang in the Taipei mayoral election, stating, 'We cannot let Chiang Wan-an win by lying down.' Chen Hui-wen noted that this press conference marked the first time Shen Po-yang and Robert Tsao had appeared together since the large-scale recall movement. As Shen is the DPP's candidate for the 2026 Taipei mayoral election but trails in polls behind incumbent KMT mayor Chiang Wan-an, Chen declared he must campaign for Shen, saying, 'One vote for Shen Po-yang, one vote for Robert Tsao.' Chen remarked that Shen Po-yang is essentially a younger version of Robert Tsao, with both advocating 'resist China, protect Taiwan' and opposing China on every front. He added, 'One vote for Shen Po-yang, one vote for Yaiko Akito,' emphasizing the need to support Shen and prevent Chiang Wan-an from winning by default. Chen questioned the claim by Shen and Tsao that Akito's attack constituted 'cross-border suppression,' asking, 'What evidence do you have? Is entering from Hong Kong really 'cross-border suppression'? I've never heard that before—it's laughable.' He asserted that there will be no evidence or truth behind this 'cross-border suppression' narrative. Therefore, he urged Taipei residents to vote for Shen Po-yang as a way to 'get back at Robert Tsao,' since they couldn't recall KMT legislator Hsu Hsin-ying. Chen further mocked that Shen Po-yang, Robert Tsao, and Yaiko Akito are, in his view, essentially the same person—only differing in name and appearance—sharing identical ideologies.
