Prolonged screen exposure causing dizziness and eye discomfort is a common modern affliction, yet no 'immediate, proactive' solution exists on the market. A student team spotted this gap and designed 'Sense Ease,' a visual comfort system for HP. On July 5 (Sunday), they withstood intense scrutiny from judges at the 23rd ATCC National Finals and emerged victorious among the top five teams.

Screen Dizziness? NTUST Team Aims to Fill the 'Zero-Solution' Market Gap

Modern individuals spend several hours daily staring at computers, making digital eye strain and visually induced motion sickness (commonly known as screen dizziness) widespread issues. However, there remains a lack of immediate, effective, proactive solutions.

The NTUST team 'Ai P Cai Hui Ying' identified this gap and proposed 'Sense Ease'—an integrated solution positioned to fill the market and clinical void of 'real-time, proactive dizziness relief.' All five members are from NTUST's College of Management. Centered on HP's AI Inclusive Design philosophy, they developed an innovative and socially inclusive consumer computing experience. This marks the first time in ATCC history that a software-hardware integrated product design has been presented.

Judges Grill Finalists with Intense Questioning

The finals were held on July 5 (Sunday) afternoon at the卓越 Hall of Fu Hwa International Cultural and Educational Center. The four judges included Dr. Pei-Chiang Pai, former Chairman of Omnicom Marketing Group; Feng Bo-Jian, Managing Director and Global Partner at BCG Boston Consulting Group; Liu Yi-Cheng, Deputy Chairman and General Manager of Hotting Venture Capital; and Sun Tsung-Te, Founder and CEO of Shepherd Group and Wang Miao Planet.

Judges didn't hold back from the start, launching direct questions on problem definition, solution logic, marketing strategy, cost-benefit analysis, and business models immediately after each team's presentation. Industry mentors and supporters in the audience held their breath, only cheering during brief intermissions.

After over three hours of presentations and Q&A sessions, the rankings of the other four finalists were announced: the 'Hardware Store' team from Syscom Electric Group's Diantong Energy took second place; teams 'Serious Thumbs Up' (Lin Yu-Lin Hongtai Education Foundation with 'Teacher Chang' Foundation), 'Formula One' (PackAge+), and 'Catalyst' (Taipei City Government Youth Division) tied for third place.

'Blade Guardian' Secures AI Server Rooms, 'Mind Escape' Offers Mental Health Support—Creative Proposals from All Teams

Each of the top five teams presented compelling solutions targeting real societal or industrial pain points.

The 'Hardware Store' team from Syscom Electric Group proposed 'Blade Guardian (Sysblade),' a hybrid energy storage protection system addressing power challenges in AI data centers. Using capacitors, batteries, and AI chips in a three-tiered system, it safeguards server racks worth millions, earning them second place.

'Formula One' team from PackAge+ tackled single-use plastic pollution in the dry-cleaning industry by launching a 'Circular Garment Bag' service ecosystem. Notably, PackAge+ itself is an environmental tech startup born from the 2019 17th ATCC competition under TSMC's challenge—this year, they transitioned from contestant to challenge-issuing company.

'Catalyst' team from Taipei City Government Youth Division proposed 'Sound of Taipei,' a matchmaking platform for youth with disabilities in music creation, aiming to bring original music and stories into commercial and urban spaces.

'Serious Thumbs Up' team, representing the Lin Yu-Lin Hongtai Education Foundation and 'Teacher Chang' Foundation, packaged youth mental counseling into a real-life escape room game called 'Mind Escape,' lowering the barrier to seeking help. These three teams tied for third place.

HP Executive Personally Awards Trophy to 'Home Team'

The championship trophy was personally handed by Ivy Lin, Senior Vice President of Global Client Solutions at HP, to her 'home team' 'Ai P Cai Hui Ying.' Having a challenge partner's executive award the prize to their own mentored team became the most iconic moment of the ceremony.

This year's ATCC spanned over three months, from the April registration deadline to the July finals. The five finalist teams advanced through multiple stages—initial round one, round two, initial final, semi-final practical round, and semi-final final—receiving intensive mentoring from industry experts provided by their challenge partners before reaching the national stage.

A Special Highlight: PackAge+ Transitions from Contestant to Challenge-Issuing Company

A special highlight this year was PackAge+, an environmental tech startup that originated as a contestant in the 2019 17th ATCC under TSMC's challenge, now returning as a challenge-issuing company, inviting students nationwide to propose growth strategies for its circular packaging business.

Over its 23-year history, ATCC has collaborated with over 128 partner organizations, involved more than 140 universities, and attracted over 47,000 student participants. It is currently Taiwan's largest and most industry-respected university business competition. Many past participants have gone on to launch successful startups in Taiwan and abroad, earning ATCC recognition as a key incubator for entrepreneurial talent in Taiwan.
