To bridge the digital divide in remote areas and enhance local residents' digital capabilities in response to regional social, economic, and cultural needs, Zhuolan Elementary School in Miaoli County has established the 'Zhuolan Digital Opportunity Center' (hereinafter referred to as Zhuolan DOC) on its campus. The center promotes digital learning, supports information access for underserved communities and vulnerable groups, and provides free digital services and learning resources.

Since its establishment in 2017, Zhuolan DOC has operated for eight years with full support from Zhuolan Elementary School. The school has dedicated itself to promoting enrollment, managing course communities, and raising awareness, earning widespread recognition and appreciation from the local community.

Zhuolan, a mountainous township rich in natural resources, is proudly known as the 'Kingdom of Fruits.' The agricultural products cultivated with care by local small-scale farmers represent the land's authentic gifts. To support these hardworking farmers and bring their high-quality produce to market, Zhuolan DOC launched a 'Brand Packaging' course. This program teaches participants how to use digital tools to transform the unique characteristics of their agricultural products into visually appealing brand designs that enhance marketability.

As a fruit-growing region, Zhuolan households commonly cultivate high-grafted pears, ponkan oranges, and peaches. However, when fruits are shipped, they are often packed in the most basic cardboard boxes. The brand packaging design course aims to equip participants with simple tools to give their fruit packaging a compelling narrative. Instructor Ms. Ju Wan-Ping begins by discussing 'What makes good packaging design?' Participants gather around computer screens, listening intently and exchanging ideas about their ideal fruit gift boxes. Although most have never used design software before, their eyes light up when talking about their own orchards.

The atmosphere becomes even more vibrant when hands-on work begins. Ms. Wan-Ping guides participants in using free and user-friendly online digital tools to gradually assemble their brand stories into visual designs: selecting warm illustrations, adding brand names, and adjusting layout proportions. As participants gain confidence, they progress from uncertainty about what to design to independently creating layouts they are proud of. Holding their self-designed brand gift boxes, participants beam with pride and a deep sense of accomplishment.

Many initially believed design was beyond their reach, but they now realize that smartphones and computers can give their fruit a 'voice.' The Zhuolan DOC course not only teaches software skills for brand packaging but also empowers local farmers to believe they can tell their own land-based brand stories. These designs attract consumer attention while conveying the warmth of the land, helping Zhuolan's rich agricultural products gain wider visibility.

Miaoli County Magistrate Chung Tung-jin stated that the Digital Opportunity Center embodies the spirit of 'learning for practical use, improving lives,' breaking down learning barriers and directly addressing public needs. By establishing foundational digital tool literacy and promoting enjoyable digital applications, the center supports local residents in gradually acquiring relevant skills, making digital technology more accessible and aligned with daily life. He sincerely welcomes the public to make full use of these resources, creating new value for the region.
