To enhance the convenience and digital experience of household registration services, the Civil Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government has launched the nation's first 'Smart Household Service Portal.' This platform integrates AI-powered conversational interfaces, real-time counter queue status, and geolocation functionality to help citizens save time and make public service visits more convenient.

Deputy Director Chen Pao-yun of the Civil Affairs Bureau stated at a press conference on the 10th that with just one click, citizens can instantly check the number of people waiting, travel distance, and service information at nearby household registration offices. The system also recommends three suitable service locations, helping users quickly plan their visit and creating a smarter, more efficient, and time-saving experience.

Chen emphasized that household services are closely tied to citizens' daily lives—whether applying for household transcripts, registering a change of address, or updating personal identification—all of which relate to key life events such as education, employment, marriage, and relocation. By leveraging AI and real-time data, the city government enables citizens to check queue conditions and travel distances before leaving home, allowing them to choose the most suitable office based on personal needs. This eliminates the need to visit multiple offices or discover long lines upon arrival. The thoughtful digital service reduces both information search time and on-site waiting, improving service efficiency and delivering more user-friendly, human-centered public service.

Civil Affairs Bureau Director Wu Shih-wei explained that once users enter the 'Smart Household Service Portal' and select the desired service—or input their needs via AI chat—the system instantly aggregates real-time data on queue progress, number of people waiting, travel distance, and service details from nearby offices, then recommends three optimal locations to help users plan their visit efficiently. For example, a resident in the West District applying for a current household transcript will receive recommendations based on their location or GPS data, with waiting numbers and distances displayed for easy comparison of travel and waiting times. This feature is estimated to save users an average of 5 to 10 minutes, though actual conditions remain subject to on-site verification.

In addition to real-time queries and AI recommendations, the portal offers several user-friendly features, including service information lookup, one-click phone dialing, map navigation, one-click copy of application details, and sharing via LINE and other messaging apps. For more complex cases requiring personal assistance, the AI proactively provides phone numbers and addresses of the three nearest household offices, enabling direct inquiries. This end-to-end smart service supports citizens from information search to planning and actual service visits.

The Civil Affairs Bureau added that the 'Smart Household Service Portal' has been integrated into the homepage's 'Convenience Services' section of the Civil Affairs Bureau's official website (https://householdai.taichung.gov.tw/Service/index.html) and is also linked from all local household registration office websites for easy access. The city will continue to enhance system functionality and user experience, expand AI applications, and deliver faster, more citizen-centric household services. Citizens are encouraged to use the portal and experience the convenience brought by smart technology.
