★★★★★★ TYPHOON MAX ★★★★★★
On July 10, as a powerful typhoon approaches Taiwan with potential direct impact, public attention has intensified over whether Taipei City will implement work and school suspensions on July 11. In response, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated during a press conference: "We will prioritize public safety and make decisions based on the latest data from the Central Weather Administration and expert assessments."
Mayor Chiang emphasized, "If wind speeds meet the criteria and significant disruptions to transportation are expected, Taipei City will consider suspending work and classes." Currently, Taipei remains at Alert Level 3, with the Department of Education and Transportation Department closely monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, several counties have already announced suspensions. Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County, and Penghu County have all declared full county-wide work and school suspensions for July 11. Kinmen County and Lienchiang County (Matsu) have also implemented similar measures.
According to the Central Weather Administration, the typhoon maintains extremely strong intensity, with maximum gusts expected to exceed 50 meters per second. Coastal areas face high risks of storm surges and landslides. Local governments have begun opening evacuation centers and distributing emergency supplies.
Educators have widely called for prioritizing student safety. However, business sectors have expressed concerns over productivity losses due to work stoppages.
Taipei City is expected to announce its final decision by 6:00 PM on July 10. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities and ensure indoor safety and preparedness.
The typhoon's path and local government responses will continue to be closely monitored.
